Inside the app

What FamilyBeacon actually does.

Built for how Filipino families really live — barangay places, Taglish alerts, and a map that doesn't eat your battery.

Live map

See everyone in your Circle, with a clear "last confirmed" time so you always know how fresh a pin is.

Places

Save Home, School, Work or anywhere else and get an alert on arrival and departure.

SOS

One tap alerts your whole Circle. Free on every tier, forever — safety is never paywalled.

I'm Safe

The opposite of SOS. One tap tells everyone you're okay, with a timestamp.

OFW Mode

Stay connected to family working abroad without draining their data or battery.

Battery-aware

Location polling adapts to whether a phone is moving or sitting still.

Trust & security

You're handing us your family's location. Here's how we treat it.

Every claim below is either how FamilyBeacon is built or something we've committed to in writing. Where we can't promise something yet, we say so instead of staying quiet.

One family, one wall

Every query is restricted at the database level to Circles you actually belong to — not filtered in the app, where a bug could leak past it. Your family's data is unreachable from anyone else's account by design, not by convention.

A child consents on their own phone

A parent ticking a box isn't enough. Nothing is collected from a child's device until that device shows a plain-language notice and the child acknowledges it. Until then they appear as pending — no pin, no battery, no location.

You can see who checked on you

Every member's own screen shows who viewed their location and when. Tracking that only works one way breeds resentment; families stay honest with each other when the visibility runs both directions.

No ads. No selling your data.

On every tier, including the free one. Subscriptions are the entire business model — which is exactly why the paid tiers exist. Providers who help run the app (maps, push, SMS) are each named in our Privacy Policy. Processing to make a feature work is not selling, and we disclose both.

Encrypted — and honest about where it lives

Data is encrypted at rest. We also won't pretend it's stored locally: our hosting provider's available regions likely don't include the Philippines, so your data is probably held abroad. We say that plainly in the Privacy Policy and will name the destination country before a single real family's data is stored.

SOS is best-effort. Call 911.

SOS and crash detection alert your Circle — they are not emergency services, and we won't market them as if they were. Alerts can fail or arrive late depending on signal, battery and device settings. In a real emergency, always call 911 first.

FamilyBeacon is still in development, so the above describes the app as designed and built, not a service already operating at scale. We're designing to the Philippine Data Privacy Act (RA 10173) and the National Privacy Commission's guidance on children's data. Read the full Privacy Policy and Terms of Service — both are pre-launch drafts and marked as such.

Questions

The things parents ask us first.

Is it legal to track my child in the Philippines?

Yes — a parent or legal guardian may consent to their own minor child's location being shared within a family Circle. FamilyBeacon is built around that: you attest to guardianship when adding a child, the child sees a plain-language notice on their own device before any location is collected, and we store a timestamped record of that consent. We're designing to the Philippine Data Privacy Act (RA 10173) and the National Privacy Commission's guidance on children's data.

Can my teenager just turn it off?

Leaving a Circle is never silent. On the Family Pro tier, a member's request to leave creates a pending request the Circle Owner reviews, rather than taking effect immediately. You'll also be alerted if location sharing is switched off or the app is tampered with. FamilyBeacon is built to keep families honest with each other, not to be undetectable.

Will this drain my phone's battery?

This is the problem we care most about. FamilyBeacon adapts how often it checks location based on whether a phone is actually moving or sitting still — a phone on a desk doesn't need the same update rate as one in a jeepney. It's the single biggest complaint about apps in this category, and the main thing we're building differently.

Do you sell my family's location data?

No. We do not sell your data and we will never show ads — on any tier, including the free one. FamilyBeacon is funded by subscriptions, which is exactly why the paid tiers exist. Some data is necessarily processed by service providers to make the app work at all — map rendering, push notifications, SMS delivery — and every one of them is named in our Privacy Policy. Processing to run a feature is a different thing from selling, and we disclose both.

Is SOS a replacement for calling 911?

No, and we won't pretend otherwise. SOS and crash detection are best-effort features that alert your Circle — they are not emergency services. In an emergency, always call 911 directly. Alerts can fail to send or arrive late due to network conditions, device settings, or location accuracy.

What does it cost?

Free forever for the basics, including SOS. Family Plus is ₱199/month and Family Pro is ₱299/month, billed per Circle rather than per person — one subscription covers the whole family. Billing runs through the App Store and Google Play.
